Thousands take part in 20th anniversary Motorcycle Run

Over 3,500 bikers took part in the 20th anniversary Motorcycle Run and Family Fun Day organised by Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) on Sunday 8th September, raising tens of thousands of pounds for the life-saving charity.
It is hoped that once all the donations, sponsorship money and other income has been received, the event will have raised around £40,000, enough to fund 18 potentially life-saving missions.
Participants rode along a 60 mile route from Ford, Dunton, to Harwich via the A127, A130, A12 and A120. At Harwich they were welcomed by a crowd of hundreds, including the town’s Mayor and Mayoress and Town Crier James Cole.
Many riders chose to wear the specially-designed 20th anniversary t-shirts over their leathers. These can still be purchased by calling the EHAAT office on 0345 2417 690.
Spectators and riders enjoyed an afternoon of family fun, food and great live music from Faux Fighters UK and ProtoStereo. The Charity’s AW169 helicopter paid a visit, landing on the foreshore next to Harwich Green. Visitors to the Family Fun Day were able to take a closer look at the aircraft, one of two operated by EHAAT, and chat to members of the Charity’s Critical Care Team.
Pre-hospital Care Doctor Asher Lewinsohn and Critical Care Paramedic Ben Myer also went onto the stage with radio presenter Martin Day to talk about EHAAT and their roles.
Supporters who were unable to attend were able to follow events through EHAAT’s social media accounts, including live streaming of the start at Ford Dunton and finish at Harwich.
Emily Donnachie, Events Manager at EHAAT said: “Over the last twenty years this event has developed into a really special community day and one of our key fundraising events of the year thanks to the amazing support we receive from the bikers and the people of Harwich.
“It was great to see so many people out along the route and at the finish to support everyone. I would also like to thank all our dedicated volunteers and our sponsors Woodland Group and Swinton Insurance, without whom we could not put on events like this.
“As a charity which receives only limited funding from Government, the money raised by events such as this is vital in supporting our life-saving work.
“With so many exciting things for people to enjoy, there was no shortage of things to do and the weather was kind to us too.”
