Susan has raised thousands in memory of her son Christopher

Susan Greenhill from Hertford has raised over £5,000 for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) in memory of her late son Christopher.

In 2012 Christopher Greenhill was killed in a motorcycle accident aged just 18. His family and friends decided to support EHAAT in his memory.

His mother Susan said: “For the last few years we have held a cake sale and raffle at Barclays in Hertford, where I work. The money we have raised has been match-funded each year by the bank.”

This year Susan again arranged a cake sale as part of EHAAT’s ‘A Very British Afternoon Tea’ fundraising initiative, raising a total of £2,015 including the contribution from her employer.

She recalled: “We were baking on some of the hottest days of the year, which was a bit unfortunate. On the day it reached 36 degrees, so we had to keep some of the cakes refrigerated. The most popular items were milk and dark chocolate muffins, which didn’t go too gooey in the heat, and some heart-shaped biscuits.

“It keeps Christopher’s memory alive and means that something positive has come out of what was a tragic event. We had a lovely day and all my colleagues and customers were really supportive because they know my situation and understand why we do it.

“Many of them play EHAAT’s Flight for Life Lottery and they are keen to highlight the work of the Air Ambulance.”
