Fundraisers at Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) are celebrating after a successful week of collecting donations for the life-saving charity.

During National Air Ambulance Week (NAAW), which ran from September 9^th to 15^th, hundreds of volunteers and staff from EHAAT were at venues across Essex and Hertfordshire to raise awareness about the Charity’s work.

Once a small number of collections later in the month have been included, it is anticipated that around £20,000 will have been collected, enough to fund nine potentially life-saving missions.

In Hertfordshire the crew at Bishop’s Stortford Fire Station saved the day by stepping in at the last minute for a collection after a group were unable to help. Others who took part during the week included: Hemel Hempstead Rotary Club, the Mayor of Hemel Hempstead and Bishop’s Stortford Air Cadets.

Essex venues included; Essex County Cricket Ground, Ardleigh Boot Sale, Wilkin & Sons, as well as supermarkets and garden centres. Bucket collections at East of England Co-op in Halstead raised £1,300, while Yelo Taxis in Braintree donated £1,000 during the week.

Supporter Martin Green raised over £3,000 during NAAW by cycling the Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex coastline in memory of his father. His cycle ride finished at the Charity’s North Weald airbase.

Each year during NAAW, air ambulance charities across the country come together to publicise their work and raise funds. The UK’s air ambulance charities are funded by the generosity of the public and treat over 25,000 patients a year. Across the UK an air ambulance is deployed every 10 minutes.

Jon Rodriguez, Head of Fundraising at EHAAT said: “It’s always great to get out into the communities we serve because we couldn’t remain operational without our amazing supporters. We really value the opportunity to explain to people how their donation makes a difference to our work.”
