A Very British Afternoon Tea 2020

Enjoy Afternoon Tea and raise money for EHAAT!

Our usual fundraising activity ‘A Very British Afternoon Tea’ has been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic this year. Social distancing meant tea parties had to be cancelled or held virtually. However our clinical team have continued to provide their life-saving service, 24/7 throughout the pandemic and to fund this we need your help more than ever.

Last summer supporters across Essex and Hertfordshire who hosted their own “A Very British Afternoon Tea” raised a tea-rrific £28,000. This year the figure is likely to be less than £1,000.  Because of this large income gap, we are asking you to support us by hosting an afternoon tea and help us raise the funds which keep your local life-saving charity operational.

Now lockdown restrictions are beginning to ease, could you hold a tea party for EHAAT? When and where it is safe to do so, and following the latest government guidelines, why not invite your friends and family to join you. It’s a great way to re-connect with those you haven’t been able to see during the lockdown and help a great local cause.

Helpful tips to think about when planning your tea party:

  • Decide on a date and time to hold your tea party
  • Consider what steps you will take to ensure you host a safe and socially distanced tea party
  • Do you want to have a theme? Maybe, ‘The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party?’
  • Set up a JustGiving page
  • Send out your invites
  • Donate the cost of your usual cuppa or slice of cake
  • Post photos of your socially distanced get together on social media using #avbat or #ratemybake

Former airlifted patient Kate Oliver is a great supporter of the Charity following her accident in 2010. Kate’s car accident resulted in severe head and chest injuries, and flat-lined twice before the Critical Care Team arrived on the air ambulance. Since the accident, Kate has become a great Volunteer and Fundraiser for the Charity and loves taking part in ‘A Very British Afternoon Tea’.

Kate’s top tip:
Mix it up – don’t be afraid to add different ingredients to recipes to make them more to your taste!

Event Sponsor

Members of the Dobsons Home team holding an Afternoon Tea earlier in the year prior to lockdown.

Dobsons Home are sponsoring our Afternoon Tea in 2020. Helen Dobson, Director said: “As the sponsor of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance’s A Very British Afternoon Tea, we are well aware of the impact that COVID has had on this fundraiser. We were thrilled to be able to do our bit by hosting a virtual afternoon tea during lockdown, to raise vital funds and I would highly recommend holding your own, it was really easy to organise and a fun afternoon for those who participated, or if online is not your thing you could hold one with friends and family in your garden and celebrate being reunited again.  It’s a very difficult time for the charity and we do hope that supporters will continue to fundraise for EHAAT, to help them to continue to provide a local life-saving service whether that is through holding an afternoon tea, or simply donating to this wonderful cause.”
