EHAAT Canvasser Statement

The Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) Flight for Life Lottery plays a crucial part in raising the funds needed to keep your local life-saving charity operational.

Fundraising events and initiatives have been cancelled or postponed during lockdown. In addition, in order to protect our canvassers and members of the public EHAAT suspended all face to face Flight for Life lottery canvassing in March.

As a result of these changes, lockdown has had, and continues to have, a significant financial impact on the charity.

Following the easing of lockdown restrictions, we have carried out full risk assessments with our two external canvassing agencies we contract to sign up lottery players.

We believe it is now appropriate and safe for our canvassers to resume their work in carefully researched, selected and pre-approved low risk areas from Saturday 1st August by following the relevant government advice.

This decision will be reviewed on a weekly basis to make sure we are complying with the very latest guidance.

All of our canvassers will abide by strict measures to protect members of the public and themselves:

  • Canvassers will wear large ID badges which can be seen at a distance, use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where necessary and make use of hand sanitizers.
  • They will follow social distancing rules by moving two metres away from a door once they have knocked, and will maintain that distance throughout the conversation.
  • Players will be signed up using a tablet computer, so that no physical contact is necessary and social distancing can be maintained.

As well as EHAAT’s internal policies and procedures the Flight for Life Lottery will continue to adhere to externally published guidelines such as those issued by the Gambling Commission, Fundraising Regulator and Institute of Fundraising.

We want anyone who is approached by one of our canvassers to be completely confident that they are speaking to a genuine representative of the charity. A full list of canvassers, including photographs, can be found on our website (ehaat.org/canvassers/) along with a detailed description of the areas they are due to be canvassing in.

If you are self-isolating, please download this print-at-home poster to display in your window or door. If displayed, our lottery canvassers will know you do not wish to be visited.
