Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) officially opened its sixth fundraising shop on Wednesday 16th May in Churchgate, Hitchin.

Guests included Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Paul Brenham MBE DL and former patient Nikki Duffy, who works at MBDA Systems in Stevenage.

Paul Brenham said: “It was a great privilege to be here today. The great work that the Air Ambulance does relies on the community for support. I hope that this new shop helps generate the funds that are needed to keep the Air Ambulance operational.”

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance was called out when Nikki Duffy suffered a cardiac arrest at work.

She said: ”Essex and Herts Air Ambulance is a fantastic charity that really is a lifesaver. I’m deeply honoured to have been chosen to help them open their new Hitchin shop which will raise vital money to keep the service going.

“I’m also very grateful to the quick reactions of my colleagues and it’s down to them, the Air Ambulance service and the presence of the defibrillators that MBDA has on site that I’m still here today.”

Pam Withrington, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at EHAAT said: “The opening of this shop means we now have six outlets across Essex and Hertfordshire, with more planned. Like the others it will play an important part in raising the funds we need to support our life-saving work as well as becoming a key part of the local community.

“We have great team of volunteers who help run our shops but we’d love to hear from anyone who has some time to spare and enjoys meeting the public. Anyone interested can get in touch with our Volunteer Team on 0345 2417 690 or via our website, ehaat.org.”

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance’s Hitchin shop is at: Unit 9, Churchgate, Hitchin, Herts, SG5 1DN. Opening times are: Monday – Saturday: 9.30 am – 4.30 pm. It is closed on Sunday and Bank holidays.
